Ground Floor Plan
Anadolu Kavagı is a historic fishing village located in the Beykoz district of Istanbul, near the point where the Bosphorus opens into the Black Sea. It stands out with its natural beauty, tranquil atmosphere, and historical character. The area is famous for the Yoros Castle, a Byzantine-era structure that offers visitors a breathtaking view where the Bosphorus meets the Black Sea. Anadolu Kavağı also draws attention with its fresh seafood restaurants, narrow streets, and seaside tea gardens. It serves as a peaceful retreat for both locals and tourists seeking to connect with nature.
Located in the serene, nature-filled atmosphere of Anadolu Kavagı, the ground floor of the building is designed as a second-hand bookstore café where the writer can meet with readers and find inspiration for his work. This floor is enriched with special details in terms of both design and functionality.
There is a natural elevation difference between the front and rear sections of the plot. This difference was turned into an advantage during the design process: the front part of the floor is slightly elevated, allowing for a more functional spatial organization. At the front, large transparent openings bring the magnificent Bosphorus view directly into the interior. This section is constructed with a steel structure, providing both a sense of lightness and durability while creating a modern appearance.
Meanwhile, the rear part of the building is resolved with a reinforced concrete structure, ensuring greater structural solidity and supporting the overall balance of the design both aesthetically and technically.
On this floor, a kitchen is positioned to meet the operational needs of the bookstore café. In addition, a maid’s room is placed nearby, close to the kitchen and service areas, providing a functional and private living space for the house staff. The maid’s room is carefully separated from the public areas to ensure privacy and efficiency in the daily functioning of the building.
Through these thoughtful arrangements, the ground floor not only serves as a lively cultural hub but also fully supports the writer’s lifestyle and creative process.
Mezzanine and Upper Floor Plan
Above the ground floor, a mezzanine level is designed as the writer’s private working area, offering a peaceful space with a direct view of the Bosphorus. This intermediate level provides a more secluded environment, while still maintaining a visual connection with the lively atmosphere of the bookstore café below.
On the upper floor, the writer’s private living areas are organized. This level includes a master bedroom positioned to maximize the sea view, a wet area (bathroom) designed for comfort, a cozy living area for relaxation, and a guest bedroom for hosting special visitors. Each space has been carefully planned to ensure privacy, functionality, and inspiration for the writer’s creative process.
Outdoor and Access
At the front of the building, a small landscaped area has been designed to create a welcoming green buffer between the structure and the street, enhancing both the visual appeal and the sense of tranquility upon arrival.
A garage entrance is positioned discreetly to provide direct and practical vehicle access to the building, ensuring functionality without disturbing the overall aesthetic of the front facade.
Additionally, a small pier (rıhtım) located at the waterfront side has been integrated into the project. This pier not only strengthens the connection with the Bosphorus but also serves as a functional gathering space. It is planned as a setting where the writer can meet with readers, host intimate conversations, and organize small discussion sessions in an inspiring atmosphere by the water.
